Manchester City host rivals Manchester United in the Premier League this afternoon, knowing that a win will open a 12-point gap over the Reds.

City threw away a two-goal lead in the same fixture last season to lose 3-2, and Pep Guardiola will know the importance of a win today.

Unbeaten after 11 games, City will stay top of the league with the three points and put a dent in United’s recent revival, which included a dramatic win at Juventus in midweek.

City eased to a 6-0 win over Shakhtar on Wednesday, with Gabriel Jesus scoring a confidence-boosting hattrick. Guardiola rested key players like Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane, while Nicolas Otamendi and Ilkay Gundogan returned to the bench after missing recent games through injury.
